The Torq Deli Café has quickly become a local favourite on the Esplanade in Torquay. Established in 2024 by Nat and Mark Albert, the café and deli combine a love of fine food with a strong sense of community.

Before settling in Hervey Bay, Nat and Mark spent many years in Sydney, where they created their own range of chilli sauces using the fiery Carolina Reaper Chilli. After moving to Queensland, they began growing their own chillies and selling their products at festivals and markets. It was during this time that they noticed something missing from the Fraser Coast — a quality deli with continental flair. With a bit of research, a lot of taste-testing, and perfect timing, The Torq Deli Café was born. The pair have never looked back.

This Christmas marks their second festive season at The Torq, and Nat says the excitement is building.

“This time of year, is always buzzing! We’re starting to order in our Christmas goodies and promote our Christmas Grazing Platters — the festive spirit has well and truly begun.”

Inside the deli, you’ll find a tempting range of condiments, infused olive oils, sauces, and European delicacies — perfect for gifting or entertaining. Nat and Mark also offer complimentary gift wrapping on hampers when you purchase three or more items. Locally grown figs are among their seasonal favourites and will feature in their popular Christmas platters.

“For anyone wanting to impress guests with a gourmet platter, you can’t go past our in-house Pepper Brandy Pate,” Nat says. “It’s always fresh and delicious, paired with marinated and stuffed olives, antipasto, imported and local cheeses, and a selection of Australian cured and smoked meats.”

To avoid disappointment, Nat recommends placing Christmas orders early. “The earlier, the better — it helps us keep stock levels just right and ensures no one misses out.”

Of course, it’s not all about platters. “Our best seller by far is our freshly brewed barista coffee with a bacon and egg roll for just $12,” Nat says proudly. “Our coffee is our own signature blend, and the bacon is thick, smoked traditional butcher’s bacon, while our eggs are local and free-range, supplied by Brother Brother Organics.”

For those entertaining at home, Nat’s top tip is to let The Torq do the hard work. “We’ll put together the platters so you can sit back and enjoy Christmas with friends and family — it’s always fun to try something new and interesting.”

When it comes to the festive season, Nat and Mark describe themselves as good old-fashioned food and wine lovers who appreciate new flavours and ideas from here and abroad.

“We love food, we love wine, and we love discovering new flavours and ideas — whether they come from right here on the Fraser Coast or from across the world.”

Looking ahead, they’re hoping to secure their liquor licence in time for Christmas, paving the way for The Torq’s upcoming wine and cheese nights.

“We can’t wait to offer our customers a true taste of Australia and beyond — boutique wines, imported cheeses, and local favourites, all in one relaxed evening setting,” Nat adds.

The Torq Deli Café continues to evolve, driven by a shared passion for great food, genuine hospitality, and community connection.
