Pioneer Day

Pioneer Day

On Saturday, March 21, the quiet country township of Brooweena will come alive with the sights, sounds and stories of another era as the Woocoo Historical Society Inc proudly hosts its much-loved Pioneer Day at the Brooweena Museum and Historical Village.

This bi-annual celebration is far more than a history lesson — it’s an immersive, hands-on journey into the lives of the men, women and families who shaped the region. For one vibrant day, yesteryear steps out of the pages and into action, with working displays and live demonstrations that invite visitors to see, hear and even have a go at traditional skills. From cross-cut sawing, rope making and butter churning to corn cracking, chaff cutting and old-fashioned washing and ironing, the past comes alive through skilled hands and shared knowledge.

Wander through the museum buildings and discover how daily life once unfolded in the butcher shop, dairy and kitchen, or step inside the Kidd Hut to glimpse how a family lived in a single-room home in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The blacksmith shop will be firing with Dan at the bellows, while vintage motorcycles, and cars will be parked up for your inspection, there will also be working antique machinery from the Rum City Vintage Machinery Club adding extra movement, noise and nostalgia to the day.

Market stalls will offer handmade crafts, local produce and unique treasures, while a food van, coffee van and the museum kitchen serve up hearty sandwiches, burgers and homemade cakes, slices and soft drinks. Kids are well catered for too, with free face painting and a jumping castle ensuring smiles all round.

Just 40 minutes west of Maryborough off the Biggenden–Maryborough Road on Smith Crescent, Brooweena, Pioneer Day is a relaxed, family-friendly celebration of heritage, community and connection.

The event runs from 9am – 2pm. Entry is by gold coin donation — a small price for a big step back in time. Everyone Welcome!
