Bottlebrush Craft Centre

Bottlebrush Craft Centre is a meeting place and gallery space for local art and craft groups. Here, our members develop their craft skills, build community relationships with like-minded local crafters and showcase their work to the public.

Bottlebrush Craft Centre is the trading name for Maitlia Potter’s Inc. Maitlia Potters was established in 1977 by a group of students under Mr Ted Meredith, a well-known Maryborough Potter. The word “Maitlia” is an aboriginal word for clay.  Bottlebrush Craft Centre has evolved into a multi craft community hub where we offer casual, affordable crafting sessions and showcase our crafters works in a gallery that is open to the public Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm.

While Bottlebrush Craft Centre was built around their pottery heritage, they now offer craft session in Pyrography, Cloth Doll Making, Art, Lacemaking and Spinning & Weaving Fibre Crafts.

OUR CRAFTS

Pottery is a hands-on way of shaping and decorating clay using simple techniques, then glazing and firing it to transform the surface with colour, texture, and a glass-like finish.

Pyrography is the art of creating designs on wood by burning patterns and images into the surface with a heated tool.

Cloth doll making is a creative craft where fabric, stuffing, and simple sewing techniques are used to design and bring unique handmade dolls to life.

Drawing and painting are creative art forms that use line, colour, and texture to express ideas, emotions, and stories on a surface.

Lacemaking is a delicate textile craft that uses thread and careful techniques to create intricate, decorative patterns.

Spinning and weaving are traditional fibre crafts where raw fibres are turned into yarn and then woven together to create fabric.

EXHIBITIONS

Recently, Bottlebrush Craft Centre underwent a gallery renovation, and we celebrated this wonderful evolution of our space with an exhibition of our crafters works, A Feast of Craft and Creation.

In September, we are pleased to be opening our second exhibition of the year, BLOOM. In celebration of the arrival of spring, our exhibition will be inspired by nature. Entries in BLOOM will fit in one of the following categories.

Garden Visitors: inspired by creatures that bring gardens to life, whether real or imagined.

In Bloom: celebrating flowers in every form from botanical studies to imaginative floral creations.

Beyond the Bloom: exploring foliage, landscapes, waterways, and the changing seasons through creative interpretations.

Our exhibitions are open to the public, and we would love to see members of our community visit us and see firsthand how artistic and creative Bottlebrush Craft Centre crafters are.

COMMUNITY

Along with craft sessions, exhibitions and gallery displays, Bottlebrush Craft Centre also volunteers time, fundraising and support to charities and community groups in our area. Every year, Bottlebrush Craft Centre hosts our annual Soup Bowl Night which is used to raise funds for local charities. We hosted our successful Soup Bowl Night for 2026 in early August with funds raised at the event being donated in support of School Savvy. School Savvy is an initiative by Centacare helping local families access affordable back-to-school essentials and ensuring children have the resources they need to start the school year with confidence.

Anyone in our community can find their place at Bottlebrush Craft Centre. Our members generously share their skills, resources, time, support and knowledge to help both the Bottlebrush community and the wider local community. This is what makes our centre such a special place.

If you have ever wanted to learn something new, meet new people, build friendships or be a part of something special, you should consider joining a community group like Bottlebrush Craft Centre.
