Something ‘heavenly’ is preparing to rock the local region this coming March.

On the back of a very successful year of performances in 2017, Hervey Bay’s Z-Pac theatre is looking to kick off the coming year with a bang! The first cab off the rank in Z-Pac’s 2018 line-up is the immensely popular rock musical Godspell!

The musical ‘Godspell’ has been successfully performed all around the world – most notably were its successful runs on both West End and Broadway. It was first produced in 1971, but despite being on the cusp of 50 years old, is still exceedingly popular with audiences from all walks of life.

The story of ‘Godspell’ is based on the Gospel according to St Matthew. It deals with the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatised versions of several well-known parables. It should be stressed though, that this musical is so much more than your average Sunday-school lesson.‘Godspell’ is a theatrical experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the ‘family of man’. In ‘Godspell’ the cast are conceived as clowns. They improvise scenery and costumes, and use theatrical devices like pantomime, vaudeville, and varied musical styles to interpret the many lessons that the bible has to offer.

Z-Pac Theatre’s upcoming production of ‘Godspell’, under the direction of Tim Holstein and Cherie Treloar, and musical direction of Kyle Downes, will breathe new life into this classic musical by inserting it into a contemporary setting. The Cast will be equipped with iPads, mobile phones and laptops; the revised script is loaded with a huge variety of pop-culture references; and there is an amazingly talented rock band to keep audiences entertained. They have even added in the ‘Godspell Rock Choir’- which is a choir of amazing local singers of all ages that support the main cast with their angelic “wall of sound”.

Godspell performs at Z-Pac theatre with 7 performances over the two weekends before Easter. The dates of the performances are March 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:30pm and March 18, 24, 25 at 2pm.
