Two huge days planned to celebrate youth

Colour run, skate party, giant games and an afternoon of block busters are just a few of the activities planned for Youth Week on the Fraser Coast.

Mayor George Seymour said the events were being held to celebrate young people aged 12 to 25 and the positive contributions they make to the Fraser Coast.

“Young people make invaluable contributions to our region and play a vital role in our community,” Cr Seymour said.

“To support our young people Council is committed to working in partnership with youth and community organisations to provide strategic advice and capacity building that encourages young people’s participation in the community.”

To kick off the week on Monday, April 12, anyone aged 12 to 25 is invited to watch movies on the big screen and enjoy free popcorn at the Brolga Theatre.

At 2pm, catch the animated comedy, Spies in Disguise, or at 4pm watch the action comedy SuperIntelligence. Movie tickets are limited so reservation is a must.

There is also the chance for youth to stretch their legs with a Colour Run from the Brolga Theatre through Queens Park and the Portside district.

On Thursday, April 15 young people can gather for a jam-packed afternoon at the Pialba Youth Precinct.

Kids will get messy with a Colour Run from SkateSide to Purple Park and back via the waterfront. There is a skate park party with activities in the area including live DJ and Red Frogs Board Riders.

A beach touch carnival including a playoff against a local Police All-stars team, youth services, inflatable activities and games, an Amazing Race style of scavenger hunt, free WetSide waterslides, barbecue, and drinks.

These activities were organised through a partnership arrangement between Council officers, members of the Youth Alliance, PCYC Hervey Bay, indigenous groups, and a range of community service providers.
