You’ve been out of work for years, raising a family or you’re the first in your family to break the cycle of welfare dependence and now, you’re braving your first job interview.
There’s just one problem – on a limited income and with no appropriate clothes in your wardrobe, what do you wear to get your foot in the door?
The Work Ready Op Shop Ball is designed to provide a good night out while gathering pre-loved or unworn corporate workwear to assist local job seekers
Guests are encouraged to bring a bag of business wear that will be donated to Bayside Transformations Op Shop and made available at affordable prices to those who need them, for job interviews and the early stages of employment or career change.
Dress code for the ball is formal, and guests may like to consider a pre-loved option, or give that once used ballgown a second outing.
Council’s Jobs Ready Trainer Pauline Rees said they’d seen firsthand how something as simple as a pair of dress shoes rather than sneakers that might have been the only option, gave someone the confidence to not only land a role but also have something to wear in the early days of employment.
Jobseekers in local employment programs have done the hard yards on bettering themselves, building confidence, resume writing, interview skills, getting the right tickets but looking the part goes a long way to feeling the part.
“These are the little things that make a big difference,” Tina Davey, Director Bayside Transformations said. It’s also a practical and waste-reducing way to help clean out your wardrobe and give clothes (and most importantly, another person living in our community) a new life.
The ball will be held at the Clubhouse Hervey Bay on the 1st of May. Tickets can be purchased via the QR code.
