Fraser Coast residents are invited to step into line and conga for kindness later this month at a fun community event ahead of this year’s Seniors Month program.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the Kindness Conga will wind its way through Stockland Shopping Centre in Hervey Bay on Monday 21 September, bringing together live music and community spirit while promoting the region’s upcoming senior activities in October.

“Seniors Month in October is all about recognising the important contribution older residents make to our community and encouraging people to stay connected, active and engaged,” he said.

“Seniors Month will feature events and activities across the Fraser Coast during October including the Over 50’s Lifestyle Expo, mystery bus trips, a photographic competition, the Mayor’s Picnic and the ever-popular Seniors Talent Quest.

“We encourage everyone to come along to the Kindness Conga, have some fun and find out what’s on offer throughout October.”

Cr Seymour said local musician Jon Vea Vea will lead the conga line from outside Jamaica Blue at 10am inviting shoppers and visitors to join the procession as it makes its way through the shopping centre.

“The conga will finish at the Food Court for a musical finale featuring other local musicians,” he said.

“It’s a simple idea with a big message: kindness connects us, whatever our age.”

Fraser Coast Regional Council Senior Liaison Officer Juls De Waard said everyone is welcome to participate with local identity Sox and Shu handing out Kindness cards along the route.

“Each card contains a positive message and participants and we’re encouraging everyone to come along and experience how small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” she said.

“Something as simple as sharing a smile, joining a conga line or passing on a kindness card can brighten someone’s day and help create stronger community connections.

“The Seniors Month Program runs from 1 to October 31 and is packed full of events designed to celebrate older residents, foster social connection and recognise the valuable contribution seniors make to the Fraser Coast.”
