John Farnham and James Reyne to play Bay music festival!

Aussie music legends John Farnham, James Reyne, The Black Sorrows and Ross Wilson are coming to Hervey Bay next year to play a music festival at the Seafront Oval on February 10.

Zaccaria Concerts and Touring is bringing the ‘By The C’ celebration of live music, food and community to the Fraser Coast in partnership with Fraser Coast Tourism and Events.

Headline act John Farnham is an Australian music phenomenon and the country’s most successful solo artist, having been the spotlight for more than 50 years with successive big-selling albums and sold-out concert tours.

The Fraser Coast music festival will help anchor the region’s 2018 summer drive marketing campaign targeting tourists within a radius of about 300km and will be backed by strong promotional activities and competitions.

FCTE marketing and communications manager Bradley Nardi said concert goers would be able to feast and drink at pop-up beach bars and food stalls as well as browse markets featuring goods and art by local artists.

“We hope to draw people from drive markets between Brisbane and Rockhampton so the region benefits from extra overnight stays,” he said.

“It’s great to see major national talent back performing an open-air concert in the region.

“Provided it attracts strong support, the aim is to make the ‘By The C’ music festival with its big-name acts an annual event to help bring more visitors into the area in February-March which are traditionally leaner months for tourism.”

FCTE had been searching for a signature attraction to add to its annual festival portfolio of Relish, the Mary Poppins Festival and the Hervey Bay Ocean Festival and a major music event was a natural fit, he said.

The ‘By The C’ concert series, was launched by Zaccaria Concerts and Touring in 2016 at Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia. Since then, the aim has been to bring the country’s best musicians to play at live sets by the beach. Hervey Bay was the first beach-side venue chosen in Queensland.

Fraser Coast ‘By the C’ supporting acts include James Reyne following his ‘Plays Australian Crawl’ tour and an Australian tour with Rod Stewart. Reyne’s songs have provided the soundtrack to endless Australian summers including The Boys Light Up, Reckless and Slave.

Sophisticated ensemble The Black Sorrows and Mr Eagle Rock – two-time Hall of Fame inductee Ross Wilson (1989 solo, and 2006 with Daddy Cool) – complete the high-class entertainment package.

Mr Nardi said a consumer competition for tickets, including a complete Fraser Coast holiday package, would be launched in November.

Locals and visitors would be encouraged to “throw on their sunnies, grab a wine and a picnic rug and come and enjoy what will be an unforgettable day”, he said.

“February is a great time to be on the Fraser Coast,” Mr Nardi added.

He said FCTE would work with Fraser Coast Regional Council to ensure the Seafront Oval was in top shape for the event with quality facilities, while concert organiser Zaccaria Concerts and Touring would be responsible for setting up the stage, the main promotion of the event and ticket sales.
